Lilia - I Forgave My Husband
In 1956 I was married to Loreto. We lived in
Years later, my husband came back. He asked for my forgiveness and wanted to stay for good. For the sake of the children, though I was hurting and angry, I took him back. We lived as one family again. His hard work paid off when our eldest daughter finished college. She was blessed with a fine job in
Still the enemy of our soul had his foothold on me, for I was still nursing the hurt, hatred and unforgiveness toward my husband and the other woman. I could not easily forget this. I did not yet have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, although I felt He was with me in all my troubles. He did not leave me alone; He answered my prayers by making me strong and sending my husband back to us. God is faithful!
My daughter and her husband were instrumental in making God’s plan real in my husband’s and my life. They brought us to Cornerstone Assembly of God. Out of respect, we joined them at church even if I had observed that this church was very different from the church in the
That day was the start of our change. We wanted to know more about God. We wanted more feeding with God’s Word. To do this we attended the Bible study regularly. The lessons on “Who God Is, Eternal Life, Salvation, and How to Be Saved” impacted my husband and me, leading us to surrender our lives to Jesus and making Him Lord and Savior. How is my local church affiliated with the Assemblies of God?
Within the fellowship of the Assemblies of God there are two classifications of churches - General Council affiliated churches and district affiliated churches. General Council affiliated churches enjoy full autonomy, having developed to the point of where they are self-governing and self-supporting. These fundamental principles have been catalysts for growth in the Fellowship. District affiliated churches are those which have not yet developed to the point where they qualify for full autonomy. What distinguishes the Assemblies of God from other Christian groups?
The Assemblies of God is an evangelic protestant fellowship that believes God exists in three persons -- the Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. The most definitive identification of the Assemblies of God is Pentecostal. Just as it was founded in 1914, the Fellowship remains a full gospel church—one where the fullness of the Holy Spirit is welcomed, nurtured, and taught. This includes speaking in tongues as the initial evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Other manifestations of the Holy Spirit embraced by the church include: messages in tongues with interpretations, prophecies, word of knowledge, and the complete gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit as indicated in the Bible. Among Pentecostal churches—the Assemblies of God is largest worldwide with over 52 million constituents.
